SEPHU delivers free local training

The South East Public Health Unit is providing free training to strengthen the skills, confidence and capability of the region’s prevention workforce to deliver inclusive, equity-focused and community-responsive strategies.

The training will equip practitioners with practical tools to design, implement and evaluate effective, evidence-based prevention and health promotion activities.

“SEPHU is committed to building the capacity of organisations and our public health workforce to implement effective, evidence-based prevention and health promotion strategies that are responsive to the needs of our local communities,” said SEPHU Director Professor Rhonda Stuart.

Working with expert partners, the training includes story-based qualitative evaluation, systems thinking, culturally responsive community engagement, plain language and health literacy, equity-focused program design and co-design with First Nations communities.

Training courses begin in October 2025 and continue into 2026. Details can be found here.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in reflective practice, evaluation for learning, inclusive communication and authentic partnership — ensuring prevention efforts are relevant, accessible and impactful across diverse population groups.

This training is a response to the needs identified through the South East Prevention Symposium and is part of SEPHU’s broader commitment through its Public Health Strategy and Population Health Catchment Plan to strengthen local capacity, amplify lived experience and foster collaboration across the prevention system.
