The Commonwealth Government have announced that pregnant women aged 16 years and over are considered a priority group and are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination and should be offered the Pfizer vaccine at any stage of pregnancy.
Updated AstraZeneca advice for pregnant women
Pregnant women who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine can receive a second dose of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine, although the Pfizer vaccine is preferred. The recommended gap between dose one AstraZeneca and dose two of Pfizer is 12 weeks unless otherwise discussed with your health provider.

Updated vaccine safety advice for pregnant women
Global surveillance data from large numbers of pregnant women have not found any significant safety concerns with mRNA vaccines, including Pfizer, given at any stage of pregnancy and suitable when breastfeeding. There is also evidence of antibodies in blood and breastmilk, which may protect infants through passive immunity.
COVID-19 vaccination is recommended because pregnant women who contract COVID-19 have an increased risk of severe illness and adverse pregnancy outcomes. COVID-19 during pregnancy also increases the risk of complications for the baby.
People who are breastfeeding or planning pregnancy
The Australian Government’s advice remains unchanged for people trying to become pregnant and breastfeeding that you do not need to delay vaccination or avoid becoming pregnant after vaccination. You do not need to stop breastfeeding. Women in this group should book in for vaccination as soon as they are eligible.
