Additional clinics and pharmacies are providing mpox vaccinations following an increase in the number of locally confirmed cases.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer today issued a health alert saying that 16 cases had been reported in the past 6 weeks, including 13 cases that were locally acquired.
Free mpox vaccinations are widely available for eligible people through sexual health clinics, hospitals, general practitioners, Aboriginal health services, councils and pharmacies. More information and vaccination providers in the SEPHU region can be found here.
Mpox is a disease caused by infection with the mpox virus, which typically results in a mild illness associated with a rash. It does not easily spread between people, as it usually requires prolonged physical or intimate (skin-to-skin) contact with an infectious person.
